Overview about thyroid

Hormones are the chemical messengers that are secreted from various endocrine glands, which act on specific target tissues to regulate specific physiological system.
Endocrine Glands are the tissues which secrete hormones. They secrete hormones directly into the blood stream. The endocrine glands in the body are:
Pineal Gland
Pituitary Gland
Adrenal
Hypothalamus
Thyroid
Parathyroid (PTH)
Pancreas (It is endocrine as well as exocrine in nature)
Ovaries (Females)
Testes (Males)
The Thyroid Gland is one of the largest endocrine glands in the human body. Anatomically, it is found in the anterior side of the neck, below the Adam’s apple (i.e. Laryngeal Prominence) 
The Endocrine Thyroid Gland secretes 3 Hormones:
T3 i.e. Triiodothyronine
T4 i.e. Thyroxine
Calcitonin 
A Thyroid Specialist is a medical professional who deals with the Physiology & the pathology related to the Thyroid Gland.
The Functional Disorders of the Thyroid Gland are described on the basis of Over or Under Secretion of the above discussed hormones.
They are:
Hyper-Thyroidism
It is a clinical and a biochemical state caused by excess production of thyroid hormones. It is also called as Thyrotoxicosis.
Symptoms are:
Nervousness
Palpitation
Fatigue
Weight Loss
Heat Intolerance
Fine Tremors
Hypo-Thyroidism
It is a clinical state characterized by inadequate production of thyroid hormones. It is called Cretinism (Children) and Myoxedema (Adults)
Symptoms:
Constipation
Dry Scaly Skin
Bradycardia
