TELEMEDICINE IN INDIA...Use of Electronic information to Communicate

Like the term ‘medicine’ and ‘healthcare’ telemedicine seldom refers to provision of clinical services, medical administration, experiments and procedures. Telemedicine can be a generic term that is employed to outline numerous aspects of healthcare at a distance. It is the use of electronic information to communicate technologies to provide and support healthcare when distance separates the participants.

Benefits of telemedicine:
1. Reduce the inconvenience and price of patient transfers.
2. Reduce the inessential period of time for health professionals
3. To eradicate the distance barriers and improve access to quality health care services.
4. Providing facilities to patients and rural practitioner.
5. Telemedicine is not so costly. Anyone can afford it.
6. It helps in providing facilities in rural areas.
7. It helps in providing coordination among medical professionals.

There are two types’ Telemedicine systems in India. The first, called store and forward is used to transfer digital images from one location to another. Teleradiology, telepath logy and teledermatology are few examples. The other widely used technology, the two way interactive television, is used when a face to face consultation in necessary. The Telemedicine system has been installed in the School of Tropical Medicine, Kolkata and two districts hospitals. In west Bengal, two hospitals where telemedicine centers have been established are the First Coronary Center unit inaugurated in Siliguri district hospital, west Bengal on 24 June, 2001 and Bankura sammilani hospital.

In the past two years, the pilot project on Telemedicine in Kolkata has already provided 10,000 teleconsultations. It does not require too much of a stretch of imagination to realize the telemedicine will soon be just another way to see a health professional. Time alone will tell that Telemedicine is a forward step or a backward direction. By- Medha Choudhary

It’s all about the brainy talk

Dealing with nervous system is not easy. It is the most complicated and most sophisticated system in the human body. a neurologist is a specialized person dealing with nervous system but the only thing is that neurologists do not perform any kind of surgeries. If there is a need of any kind of surgeries, then they are referred to neurosurgeons and most of the time both of doctors are there in the same hospital itself so the patient doesn’t have to run here and there to get himself treated.
The case is understood clearly by the neurologists There are many neurologists in Delhi which deals with many diseases and disorders stroke being the most common! Stroke is a kind of cerebrovascular disease. Other diseases such as sclerosis which can be multiple sclerosis or progressive sclerosis which are included in the category of demyelinating disease, headache is the common one which is dealt and handled by them almost every day. Parkinson’s is another kind of movement disorder which is mostly age related disorder.
There are some disorders which causes seizures and one such disorder is epilepsy. Neurologists deal with both central nervous system and peripheral nervous system. Spinal cord disorders are also handled by them. Sometimes there are patients with speech and language disorders. Which are also handled by the neurologists and many therapy sessions are also conducted to treat such patients. By- Dt. Trishala Chopra

Sound in mind…

The silent tell when someone lies, as their body rejects the lie has been the source of wins in poker games. The human anatomy may be the same in everyone but the functioning of the mind or the physical brain is what makes us distinct, makes us who we are. The human mind has slowly become weakened that we are now incapable of handling simple stress.

As I sat quietly observing the psychiatrist at work, I learnt the back story of a suicidal women. She had consumed poison because her five year old son was being naughty and wouldn’t listen to her. Constant criticism on the way she raised her young boy threw her off balance and lead to a suicide attempt. I wondered how fickle is she, isn’t a mother supposed to be strong. I refused to believe her and explained the same to the doctor after her session had concluded. He invited me back to the patient’s next session. During that session the patient was put under hypnosis, in the trance state she revealed a history of domestic violence that she wanted to escape from. The doctor told me to always trust my gut because we aren’t functioned to lie and that is why the body rejects lies in the form of simple tells.

The mental wellbeing of a person is of utmost importance. Seeking help for it should not be frowned upon. Our society will not frown upon alcoholics that voluntarily damage their livers but will catcall and isolate those not in sound mind. Ironic isn’t it…. Don’t ever be afraid to seek help because unless you ask no one will know what you want or even what you need. By- Rashi Subbiah

WOMEN HEALTH- importance to women health

Today, it is very much pleasing to know that the world has developed in all factions from arts to medicine. Though the field of medicine has developed with the technology, a lot of other new and dangerous diseases have also emerged and developed with the technology. And one of the major fields where medicine has to concentrate at present is women health as women these days are becoming prone to different diseases. Women have become prone to diseases related to gynecology. The increased rate of diseases in women is due to the changed lifestyle. The food is one of the major factors of this issue and women will need to start giving care to the food they eat.
Cancer has become very much common among women. Breast cancer and ovarian cancer are the most common and deadly cancers that have started to attack women on a large scale. In order to reduce this increase of cancer among women, a lot of hospitals provide free cancer checkups for women to track their health on a regular basis.
Stress is another common issue that leads to the ill health of women. Women are biologically prone to show signs of aging faster than men and stress will lead to sooner aging and more biological problems. Women will have to meditate on a regular basis to keep them free from stress.Women health has always been one of the most unnoticed sectors in medicine. Therefore it is the duty of both the women and the people around them to give importance to women health so that women around the world stay healthy and fit.  By - Pujha Ramesh

Ophthalmology – the science of sustaining eyesight.

The eye is perhaps the most significant sense organ an individual possesses. Lose it, and you irreversibly enter a realm of eternal darkness. It almost takes out all the hope in you, leaving you frustrated; more so if you once had possessed this gift in the past. So, it is hardly surprising that futuristic advancements are made in the fields of eye-examinations and treatments, in India and abroad.

Ophthalmology is the branch of medicine that deals with the structure, internal structure and diseases of the human eye. A specialist in medical and surgical eye problems is called an ophthalmologist. Since they perform operations on eyes, they are both surgical and medical in nature of specialists. A large number of diseases and conditions can be inferred from the eye. India is playing a major role here, and is also one of the global leaders in this field. Delhi, near the National capital, is fast culturing this field, developing state-of-the-art medicos and technologies.

In Delhi and in almost all other parts of India too, after completing MBBS degree, post graduate study in ophthalmology is required. The degrees are the Physician of Medicine, the Master of Surgery, and an optional Diploma in Ophthalmic medicine and surgery, and so on and so forth. The practice and work experience, prevalent today, is in the form of a junior residency at a medical college, eye hospital or institution under the supervision of experienced senior medicos. Further work experience in the form of fellowship or senior resident, does refine the skill of these junior and budding eye surgeons. These highly trained specialists are truly thus proving themselves to be indispensable. They can bring back the sight to the blind. They are the saviours of our eyes. They are the ophthalmologists. By - Rounak Bose

O.M.A. – ONLINE MEDICAL ADVICE.

Had you ever thought if you could buy your medicines online, then why not seek medical advice from your doctor online. If you had ever thought that way, then now it’s time that you really do get your advice related to medical issues online. The field of medicine is now offering the possibility to meet your doctor right from your home without having to travel anywhere. There are a lot of advantages to online medical advice. There are a lot of possibilities for you to get infected easily when you are together with the other patients in the outpatients ward and also for the doctors to get infected while trying to treat the infected patients. Online medical advice paves way for both the patients and the doctors to get the better of these downsides.

Having to fix an appointment and seek medical advice with the doctor online is probably one of the simplest ways. You will first have to go to the website that you prefer and you can become a member of the website as a patient by registering. You will have to upload your medical reports in the website. You can fix an appointment with the doctor at your convenient time. Once you are done with fixing the appointment, all you will have to do is meet your doctor from wherever you are at the fixed date and time. And to seek this advice all you will need is to video chat with your doctor.

Once you are done with all your queries and doubts you can end your chat with the doctor and make the payment also online without having to wait in the long queues for a long time for having to pay your medical bill.Seeking medical advice online is the new way that has started to trend now in India. By implementing more technological ideas to this system, benefits of high level will be provided for both the doctors and the patients. By - Pujha Ramesh

Avoid following something which is not our culture- The Indian culture”

“why are you having an analgesic grandson?”
“because my body is aching, grandfather”
“Even my body use to ache grandson, but we never had medicines
“Then what did you do to get rid of the body ache, grandfather”
“I use to have a glass of haldi in milk at night and next day morning my pain use to go away”

There was a specific reason behind why I have mentioned this conversation between a grandfather and his grandson. Kids these days’ pop up pills like it is a chocolate. Little pain in the end, analgesic! This is not right. It is not that, it never pained for oldies in their age. It definitely did but there were natural remedies available for a normal pain which could manage without analgesics only. Few years back homeopathy and Ayurveda was nowhere in the picture, it only gained back importance because of the huge brand endorsing done by some great celebrities. People are now keen to know about is included in Ayurveda! Allopathy medicines are costlier, it is not an easy task for any average income group population to purchase them hence to buy it, they spend all their salary. Medicine was being practiced since the time of ancient vedas and the only thing which has changed is addition of new way of using this field. Being generalised, many things gets piled up! Hence to understand about some other doctor, another thing has be reffered which is a kind of cons in the system of medicine.

Medical Management Systems to our rescue

The category of healthcare that manages the daily operations of a particular medical practise is known as a Medical Practice Management system. The main utility of this system lies in the fact that it can allow users a wide ease-of-access, at any time, to patient data, records, appointments and other records et cetera. In India and abroad, it is mostly to the average-sized medical offices that these Medical practice management systems cater to. They also allow for third-party usage in case of medical payment and billing by other medical companies. They also have their own software, which is termed the Medical Practice Management Software. This has three further sub-classes: one which is solely for desktop use, another which acts as the client-server software and the third, which is the purely Internet-dependent software

It is interesting to observe that the Medical Practice Management System works in symbiosis with the EMR (electronic medical record) systems. There does occur some overlapping of data in case of a PMS and an EMR, they are generally used to fulfil separate purposes. EMR is primarily used for assisting the entire structure with official and clinical matters, whereas the PMS serves the idea of helping out in terms of administrative and financial matters. This inter woven structure, though very good for the health of this structure, is one of the most challenging and tough aspects of the medical practice management system.

Almost all practice management systems allow the registered users to sign-in and locate patients, their appointments, and other data. Sending out insurance claims and patient statements are a part of the collection system and they also generate reports for the administrative system and the clinical staff of the institute. All in all, it is a highly intelligent system that promises to deliver a lot in the years to come. By - Rounak Bose

One of the finest craftsmen in the world, show up a Dr. before their name!

Surgeons, being physicians as well as trained in performing surgical procedures on patients, forms the fundamental base of Allopathic Medicine in today’s era!Surgeons in Delhi are now able to perform procedures such as Bariatric Surgery as well as Plastic Surgeries involving skin remodeling in patients with burns and other cases.A surgeon is a medical graduate (MBBS), who has done several years of post-graduate work in surgical department (Masters Of Surgery)In Delhi, Orthopedic & Thoracic surgeries are very common, followed by Visceral Surgery (Surgery of internal organs).

Orthopedic Surgeons used their skills in management of various musculoskeletal ailments, most commonly being Fracture healing, Osteo/Rheumatoid Arthritis management and some congenital (By birth) abnormalities as well.Thoracic Surgeons are involved in management of Cardio-Thoracic & Pulmonary-Thoracic Procedures. Common interventions are Coronary Artery By-Pass Surgery, Coronary Angioplasty, Replacement of Valves (Prosthetic Valve Implant) etc.Due to the high tech medical advancement, Surgeons in Delhi are now able to perform complete Joint Replacement & Joint Re-Construction (Arthroplasty).

This joint replacement program is most commonly used for Hip Joint (THR-Total Hip Replacement Surgery) as well as Knee Joint (TKR-Total Knee Replacement Surgery), the latter being uncommon (less frequent).Following the same, Plastic Surgeries involving skin remodeling are now practiced in various surgical departments of our capital.Probably, the only thing surgeons cannot do, as of now, is to prevent the conditions requiring a surgical treatment, because the rest, which was once unimaginable, is now practiced like a routine regimen!

BLOOD DONORS – DONATING A SMALL PART OF YOU TO CONTRIBUTE SOMETHING LARGE TO SOMEONE.

Blood donors are people from whom blood is drawn and used for transfusions and/or made into biopharmaceutical medications by a process called fractionation (separation of whole-blood components).Though medical field has become very much advanced today, we still haven’t reached or achieved a technology where we can manufacture blood. Therefore it is very much essential for the country to have sufficient number of blood donors as they will be the only source of providing blood. When a person donates blood, he or she not just donates blood for one person because when one donates blood, the blood he or she donates will be useful for three different people at the same time as there are three different components in blood which can be used for three different people who will be in need of any one particular component. As the need for blood every day has become inevitable so has become the need for blood donors. Before donating blood, a series of tests are conducted in order to make sure if it safe for the donor to donate his or her blood. First the hemoglobin content of the donor’s blood is estimated to check if the donor has enough amount of hemoglobin content in his or her blood. If the hemoglobin content is not in the required level, then the donor would not be allowed to donate the blood. The blood received from the donor is also screened in various methods to make sure that the blood does not cause any harm to the recipient. The donor’s blood is screened to see whether the blood has any kind of medical related issues like diabetes or any such disorder. If the donor’s blood is found to be not healthy, then the blood will not be taken by the blood bank as it will be of no use as it might harm the recipient.

Today, there are a lot of blood donors who donate their blood on a regular basis at regular intervals. There a lot of donors who donate their blood as an act of charity while there are also other donors who even get paid for donating their blood. People should together create and spread awareness about the importance of donating blood and also the privilege in being a blood donor. By-Pujha Ramesh

Take care of your body, don’t let medicines rule you

PSYCHOLOGICAL MEDICINE IN DELHI
A 14-year-old girl could not manage to clear an entrance exam. She gave several attempts but she could not clear. She got insomniac and soon she had to take sleeping pills which was prescribed by her doctor. One day she just could not handle things and she did an overdose of those sleeping pills which was given to her for to induce sleep and result was…she died. Reason was overdose of the pills. A young girl killed herself with these psychotropic medicines. What special does these medicines have in them to kill somebody? These medicines have the ability to directly hit the brain cells, as a result excess hitting on the brain becomes fatal!

Psychological medicines are never sold out without prescriptions. Neither can these drugs can be prescribed by anyone. A specific degree is required to prescribe them! Not many, but Delhi has few of very experience psychological medicine experts.
There are various types of psychological medicines which are now available for dealing with different kinds of neuro disorders. Antipsychotics, antidepressants, hypnotics, stabilizers or better known as mood stabilizers, few stimulants are examples of types of drugs which are usually prescribed for a neurological disorder.

Hallucinations are common and everyone must have heard about it but not many are aware that hallucinations can be a symptom of schizophrenia which is a psychotic disorder and in this kind of disorders, antipsychotic drugs are used. Though it is rare but sometimes these antipsychotics drugs are can also be termed as tranquilizers. So the function remains the same but the brand for selling might slightly differ

Gynecology- Taking on the taboo of reproductive organs

For many years the topic of reproductive has been considered as a great taboo in the society. People often try to avoid such conversations without realizing the adverse effects this lack of information can have in long term. People may try to avoid talking about this subject but one fact which cannot be denied is that these organs are just as important as any other organ. The dilemma which arises here is, if the society is not willing to talk about it, who is there to share the problems with? The field of medical science has answer to every problem and in this case, the answer is a branch of medicine known as gynecology.

Gynecology is the branch of medical science which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases related to female reproductive organs like vagina, uterus and ovaries as well as breasts. This branch of science is exclusively for women and it has its male counterpart called andrology. It is primarily a surgical branch serving various purposes like birth control, infertility, infections to these organs through the use of both oral medicine and surgeries although surgery is the more common option.

The job of a gynecologist has often been looked down in the past. The society has always questioned the motives of the doctor for wanting to work with female sex organs. This narrow mindedness has slowly been eradicated and this branch commands as much respect as any other when it comes to medical science.

The search for our saviours

In this world, as far as the present scenario is concerned, blood is as important as water. Several people die of loss of blood from their body and consequent weakness. Donating blood is the need of the hour, and the people of the world have risen up to this challenge with zest. It has almost become a new trend nowadays; to become a blood donor. But it is still quite a tricky job to search for proper and genuine blood donors.

In today’s world, almost all of the blood donors are unpaid. The volunteers do donate blood for a community supply without receiving money in exchange. Some donors, however, donate blood as a gracious act of charity. But some modernised countries do have provisions for paid blood donation schemes. In some cases, there are other incentives too for donating blood, thus making sure that it is not difficult to search for blood donors on a wide scale.

Blood donation also turns out to be of great benefit for the health of the donor’s body. It prevents toxin accumulation, reduces risk of heart-related diseases and also reduces blood pressure as well as blood glucose. Nowadays, there are many apps and websites for blood donor searching and also for recruiting robust donors. It has become of prime status that screening is properly done and there is no carelessness in the search process. It is common knowledge that giving a few litres of blood will only improve a person’s health. Moreover, there is the added satisfaction that a person’s life might be restored using that donated blood. Donors participating actively in blood camps and drives are playing the role of saviours to the injured, the needy. They are the real heroes of the world. And it is imperative that search engines are developed for them to come together and build this Earth a better place to live in. By - Rounak Bose

Audiology- Giving the pleasure of Hearing

If there is one ‘power’ in us human beings which is not appreciated nearly enough as much as others, it is the sense of hearing. While it is a part of the widely learned sense organs, it does not get the credit it deserves which is why the infections related to this organ were ignored in the years gone by.Gradually, as the importance of ear to the human body was realized, new field in medical sciences came forward to specifically focus on the treatment of infections plaguing these organs.

First came the ENT specialist which focused on treating problems related to ears nose as well as throat. The specialization in these fields further increased with increased research put into this field and as a result a separate branch was introduced to cater solely to problems in ear. This separate branch was called audiology and came to light as recent as 1946 which is very new when compared to some of the other branches. Audiology dealt with hearing, balance and related disorders. Medical practitioners in this field are mainly faced with problems of hearing loss and they act proactively to prevent collateral damage.

Science has played a major role in the development of this branch as most of the diagnosis techniques are heavily reliant on science. After diagnosis, treatment plans include giving the patient a hearing aid or recommending cochlear implants depending upon the extent of hearing loss. This branch has made sure that the underrated pleasure of being able to hear is taken benefit of by everybody and it has been successful in doing the same. By - Vatsal

Health isn’t a goal; it is a way of living!

How often do you go for blood tests? Not many people do that unless they find any symptom which requires your blood test to be done! Hardly 5% of the population goes for regular blood tests! Why is that so? isn’t it important to get it done? It is but either there is some time constraint or people are lazy to do that! India has now been declared as polio free country! There are no new cases which has been detected in the years! How has this happened? Because people have finally realized the importance of the vaccination! The credit goes to our government! Their hard work and their awareness strategies has paid off!

In Delhi, free polio vaccination booths are organised every two months and it is made sure that every child is given the vaccination. It sometimes happens that parents could not make it to the booths because of some genuine reason. So that doesn’t mean that their child will not get vaccination for that particular month! Government has made door to door service available! The social workers visit every house and check if there is any child who has not got the vaccination.

There is a black ink mark which is being applied on a child’s hand which proves that the child is given the vaccination for polio! The government is striving hard to get rid of polio and they finally have succeeded! Nothing is attained individually…everyone has to work for it! If awareness programs are being organised one should make sure that they attend that program. This motivation has to come from within and no one can force anyone on this! By - Trishala

How impactful a toxin can be will only be understood with toxicology

If we just go through the flash back i.e. history, the people there had any fruit which was available in the forest to suffice the hunger, they never thought of the toxins which could be in the fruit and honestly, that time did not even require such tests also. They had the fruit and it was done. So now, why has this field come up? Why toxicology is a matter of concern now? Toxicology is an increasingly important subject which has to be discussed in the modern society because of the ever growing use of chemicals and high technology radioactive appliances which has been tremendously increased! Vast studies are required to study these kinds of evolution for the welfare of the people!

Xenobiotics is something which is very important in toxicology studies. The most interesting example is about the bactericide which was used in talcum powers and soaps and mostly all companies did use it! ‘hexachlorophene’ was the bactericide which was used and probably since the year 1945 it is being used. After few years, probably in the year 1970-1971 there was a sudden outbreak and around 100 children were affected after using these talcum powder and soaps and around 40% of the children died because of the same bactericide. Various toxicologists started their research on this and finally they found out that this bactericide interfered with the brain and spinal cord and this was the main reason behind the death of those children! Similar toxicology studies are being carried out in the Delhi research centres by different toxicologists and various researches are being published on the daily basis! By - Trishala

ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORDS IN INDIA

Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well being of a living organism. When this physical, mental and social information of a patient are collected, tracked and share past and current records complies together and is said health records. When these health records are stored or maintained electronically, it is known as Electronic Health Records.

Gone those days when people used to carry those heavy files of documents, nowadays, people have become more advanced and follow the policy of keeping hard copies. As more healthcare facilities from hospitals to private clinics are migrated from paper charts to digital records, the benefits will increase to both doctors and patients. According to the reports and surveys, EHRs contain less error than paper records. EHRs benefits are spreading worldwide as it includes less paperwork and can help in spending a portion of their time filling out forms.

It has enhanced the quality of patients care. Communication has become easier between patients and doctors.More efficient at storage and retrievals. EHRs reduce medical errors by improving the accuracy of medical records. Once the implementation will complete, it will cost less to the medical system. The government of many countries is working to ensure that all citizens of their country have electronic health records and every record has same information. By - Medha chaudhary

Live smart and healthy with online medical advice systems...

Online medical advice is basically the medicos, providing a formal professional insight into what a concerned individual should be doing in regards to his maintaining his state of well-being. It involves the stages of diagnosis, the prescription and the thorough treatment of the shortcoming; online.Online medical advice developed in the recent years, indicating the use of a generation of physicians and health practitioners, and a huge database to prescribe healthcare means and drugs to individuals using the World Wide Web.

Internet resources like video-conferences and messages have developed to such an extent, that it is child’s play now, to shift to online physicians giving out advices and drug prescriptions. This innovative piece of technology has not only saved costs involved and convenience and ease of access, but has also led to enhanced privacy during communications online. In India there are quite a few companies which allow consumers to access the feature of online medical advice. They have a total span of around one lakh doctors under their umbrella. Millions of monthly interactive sessions are recorded. IT thus provides free communication with doctors, specialist consultation, paid though, audio- and video-calling attributes, and real-time news feed on various medical and health issues.

Apart from the above-mentioned pros of this system, online medical advice has its shortcomings as well. Firstly, there is no physical examination of the patients. The main motive behind using acupuncture is to get relief from the pain.

Apart from this, Acupuncturists treat a variety of medical conditions or some kind of symptoms, or if there are any side effects with respect to any condition for example is a person is suffering from some kind of chronic pain were chronic means for a longer time ad examples of chronic pain is headache, back pain or an arthritis condition. PACS healthcare-a new vista to advanced medical imaging.

Images, in medical diagnosis, are of utmost importance in this era. They speak volumes about the condition of the patient. And so, it is imperative that one also develops on the storage and retrieval methods of these images. Gone are the days of traditional film-based medical imaging and storage. PACS is here- a new addition to the arsenal of advanced health-care services provided to the common man. A PACS is a form of medical imagery, the technology being utilised to efficiently store and allow ease of access to images or other similar documents from a large set of origin systems.

There are four components of a PACS; there are source applications for medical imaging, a robust networking system, workstations and most importantly, the online archives where data is stored and retrieved from. Now, if the PACS healthcare is merged with the advanced web tech of the recent era, this form of healthcare service will not only eliminate the time and distance barriers, usually attributed to traditional films of images, but will also be efficient enough to provide correct and real-time imagery when needed. It is working wonders.

The PACS is ably developed to operate on images of different sources, with the likes of the ultrasound imaging, MRI images, nuclear medicinal images, PET and CT scan images, mammograms, histopathology et cetera. New image extensions are being included to make sure that operations can be performed on them too.The shift from the traditional and cumbersome film-based image processing to this new futuristic concept has brought up cost-related issues, but then, everything in life comes at a price, doesn’t it? Telemedicine-the new trend

It is by far the prime method of healthcare service delivery in the near future. It is the niche that will be provided to us to maintain the efficiencies needed in affordable healthcare provisions. And in India, it is taking the health market by storm. Telemedicine in India is a product of the 20th century high-tech innovations, allowing for interactive sessions amongst the patients and the medicos, all the while, maintaining the privacy and integrity. It also involves the sending of medical images and health data across channels.

It can be roughly classified into 3 main branches based on the type of service provided; store-and-forward telemedicine, real-time interaction sessions, and remote monitoring of patients. The Telemedicine Society of India, a government initiative, providing Telemedicine and online health-care is not the only provider in this field. It is backed by many growing and developed private institutes serving this premium feature.

This new addition to the array of medical services is highly beneficial to those people who live in remote places and inaccessible communities. They receive intensive care from specialists online, without having to travel for solutions to their medical maladies. Online patient visits and prescription generation and h-drug administration reduces drastically the cost of medical services.

On the darker side, huge expenditure is involved n the setting-up and initialising of this process. It also reduces face-to-face interaction and totally removes the play of emotions.  Despite all its flaws, telemedicine in India is maturing to an advanced level at a high rate. In this era, when the average consumer carries out almost all of his day to day activities online, it is definitely not a surprise that healthcare and advanced medicine departments should also be handled in the same fashion.

E-health records-the need of the hour...

Thousands of patients die every year from medical errors that can be forestalled. Standing in this scenario, it is quite imperative that we adopt the new technologies in the market. This is bound to improve the way health records are maintained all over the world, drastically. The Patient Protection and Affordable Healthcare Act being passed in the recent past, e-health records have been widely accepted across organisations in India and abroad, small and big.

An EHR is an electronic version of the medical data of any individual, maintained by the service-provider and including all the main administrative as well as clinical data which is significant for that person’s care, including statistics, progress memos, diagnosis reports et cetera. However, in India, around 60% of online patients claim to possess an EHR, roughly 20% of them utilise it for more efficient medical care supply.

The advantages include improved high rate of availability of data, allowance to digitalised medicos for entering orders from customers, efficient payment systems, encumbrance to health issues, and enormous comfort of access. The dark side however, entails lack of interactive ability amidst EHRs, extremely high expenditure for setting-p and maintenance, delays in database-entries as well as an ever-lasting updating system.

Assessing new technology on the rise, implement a new set of processes, managing workflows and recognising and deleting garbage value before taking to the society a new EHR system, will drastically help to better effectuation, build up communication, and de-limit non-value added work. This ultimately will lead to an increase in the acceptance of this feature in India to a greater degree.
