The help in maintain the balance of electrolytes that are present in the blood. The waste that is filtered by the kidneys is excreted as urine into the urethra is finally drained into urinary bladder.

The study of the functions of the kidneys is called “renal physiology”. The field of medical specialty which is concerned the diseases related to kidneys is called “nephrology”. The medical practitioner who practices in “renal physiologist” and the medical practitioner who specializes in nephrology is called a “nephrologist”. Though a human has two kidneys, the functioning of one kidney is enough to survive, as the amount of renal tissues needed to survive is present in one kidney. Only when the amount of the renal tissues present is lesser than the amount of the tissues needed, it leads to chronic kidney disease.

Few treatments involved during a kidney failure are dialysis and kidney transplant. Dialysis is the process of removing the waste materials from the blood when the kidneys are unable to function properly and it is temporary. A kidney transplant is done to a person when there is a kidney failure.Kidneys are a pair of vital organs that plays a significant role in the survival of a human. Kidneys should be utmost care and protection to ensure a healthy and long life. By- Pujha Ramesh
