THE SURGERY SHENANIGANS

Neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, cataract removal surgery, plastic surgery, transplants, this surgery, that surgery…we’ve heard them all. While some surgeries are life saving procedures performed under great complications, some are unnecessarily prescribed to make money off of people and some, on the other hand, are willfully undertaken by people to take a few years off their face, pull up that sagging skin or just twirl a magic wand and change the features of their body that they like the least. The crux of the issue is that surgery has become a necessary evil. Going under the knife after a certain age is unpreventable due to a plethora of common ailments like knee replacement, hip replacement, uterus removal, heart issues and so on.

While some uber healthy people may be able to dodge the surgery bullet entirely, it is imperative for the rest of us mortals to take certain precautions before taking the leap. Step 1; make sure your doctor is trustworthy. No, REALLY make sure that he or she is suggesting surgery as the last resort. Then, get comfy with your laptop and research on how you can make this surgery easy for yourself and prepare yourself accordingly, for example research on what foods to eat or to avoid during that phase of fragility your body is going through and what activities not to indulge in so as to not strain your body. Also, pick a friend or family member and assign to them the task of helping you come out the other end of the tunnel with your chin up. Hand them the sole responsibility of taking care of you. And that’s it! You can do it. Will power and a little creativity with the way you handle the serious stuff is all it takes to survive it. Good luck! By - Sukanya
