Like
most things, we put off gaining in depth knowledge into something as
common as cancer. Also like most things, we think “this will never
happen to me”. And as much as we hope and pray, bad things do
happen. Isn’t it better to be prepared rather than face the sudden
blow, unprepared and unarmed with something as basic and as easily
available as information ?So
yes, here’s the brutal reality : the world is developing at a
dizzying pace and it is somewhat developing at the cost of human
lives.
The pollutants from industries, the radiation from the new
towers and the tightly fit schedules of people with no time to take
care of their health are all leading towards development of more and
more illnesses, like cancer.Cancer,
as we know , has been on the rise in people since the past few
decades. It is no coincidence that this rise is accompanied with
rapid industrialization, urbanization, and development.
Cancer, in
layman terms, is the abnormal growth of cells, which is caused due to
all the factors mentioned above, alongwith other factors like
genetics. Oncology is the branch of medicine that deals with
different types of cancer. It is difficult to find a qualified
oncologist who doesn’t charge an exorbitant fees in our country
these days. There is a need to make healthcare affordable to all
sections of society and it can be done either by improving the
standards of government hospitals or by making it mandatory for
doctors in private hospitals to devote a fixed amount of their time
and services to the underprivileged, free of cost.
