Everything has a happy ending, just give it some time

Physical Medicine involves use of techniques which stimulate physical abilities of a patient.

These stimulatory techniques may be Neurologic, or Musculo-Skeletal.
These techniques together referred to as Functional Rehabilitation is of great importance.
Rehabilitation not only involves management of cases with neurologic deficits.
It also involve cases, which require Physical Functional Re-education.
One of the most common example is Post-Amputation.

If one of the lower limb is amputated due to some reason, then goal of Rehabilitation is to teach the patient, to continue his/her ADL’s, at least in such a way, so that the patient is not completely dependent on someone.

One of the key protocols include Gait Training using Crutches (Crutch Walking using Axillary/Elbow/Gutter Crutches or Sticks & Walkers)

This involves measurement of the crutch according to the patient, strengthening of the uninvolved parts of the body, as well as counseling.

Counseling is also an essential part of physical rehabilitation, as in managing such cases, there are chances that patient might experience depression, or may indulge in other acts which are socially unacceptable.

Other protocols in Rehabilitation include regimen’s involving patients in certain activities, which stimulate their Limbic System & hence profoundly impact their mood.
A practitioner involved in imparting functional re-education to a patient maybe a Physiotherapist (PT) or any other trained practitioner with a MBBS/MS/MD Degree.

In USA, practitioners involved in physicalmedicine are referred to as “Physiatrist”

Care for the elixir of life – serology.

Care for the elixir of life – serology.

Serologists – those who care for our blood and serum - our life-force.

Blood and serum is what replenishes us. It is what keeps us alive and moving. Basically it is the elixir of life. Take it away and one will shrink like a dried leaf instantly. Damage it, and you will see them gasping for life. Such is its value. The people who save us from blood and serum-related diseases which are more often than not lethal, are nothing short of being our saviours. They are the serologists.
Serology in Noida, is flourishing like never before. With many new advancements and technologies at their disposal, serologists are having a field day. They can now claim to cure almost every blood and serum linked disease that has been observed in man.

Many people think of the serologists as the physicians who diagnose blood and serum, but this is only partly true. They also scrutinise and decide on the right form of therapy or treatment, they also deliver the treatment themselves, they carry out extensive researches on the blood and serum and other related tests; they practically do everything, and all this is often achieved in symbiosis with the serologists.

Serologist is a branch that delves in to the depth of a person. It is a discipline that is a very distinct sub speciality of another branch called internal medicine or general medicine. It also shares common features with oncology, the study of cancerous ailments, to the lay man. Serologists treat disease like haemophilia, lymphoma, and also conduct blood and serum transfusions, and stem-cell and bone marrow transplantations. They have also been known to give chemotherapy and radiology related therapies in rare cases. Anti-coagulation therapies and diet-advices do not go out of place with serologists too.All in all, serologists are definitely one of the most significant type of physicians we encounter in our life span. They are our messiah, caring and treating our life-force- our blood and serum. By- Rounak Bose

Noida – where heart, blood vessels and lymph vessels’ care is at its zenith

Pumps are the lifelines in households and factories - transferring materials from one place to their destination. They are the reasons why we can survive. The human body is no exception - the role of the heart, blood vessels, lymph vessels comes in as a pump. The slow monotonous thumping of the heart, blood vessels, lymph vessels is what keeps us on and working. One misbeat, one small flaw in the frequency and life is over. This is where the calibre of angiology is best portrayed.

To the lay man, angiology is basically the “study of the heart, blood vessels, lymph vessels and nearby parts of the body”. To the specialist, it is that quintessential branch of medicine, wherein, organs of the human thorax or chest are surgically treated, involving generally diseases and conditions arising from heart, blood vessels, lymph vessels ailments, lung ailments and the like.
Noida is one of the main centres of such surgeries and treatments in Northern region. Typically, a residency in this speciality of medicine for practice in Noida and nearby, takes up around 12 to 18 years of thorough practice to become a full fledged surgeon and specialist. There are quite a few combinations of these surgeries that one can take up and specialise in- for example, the angiology(CT), the cardiovascular (CV) or the much more elaborate cardiovascular thoracic (CVT).

Recent developments, like those in cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary , like the by-pass are the demands of the day. Futuristic developments, like the robot assisted angiology is the leader in this arena. It is however important to remember that everything has a bad side also; infections resulting from these surgeries are often lethal. So it becomes important that we use these technologies efficiently and carefully, and needless to say, Noida is doing exactly that.

The treatment of cancer – Oncology.

Even today, after so many forms of treatment have been discovered and invented and are being implemented, cancer still instils fear into the hearts of patients and their relatives alike as it is so lethal a disease. However, the advent of radiation therapy has brought about a drastic improvement in the health of post-cancer-detected patients.
Radiation therapy in Oncology or in short RTx or RT, is the practice of using ionising radiations on the tumours or the cancer - affected cells of the human body in order to destroy and eliminate them from the body. In Noida, radiation therapy can be prescribed by any specialised oncologist. However the intent of the treatment will differ with respect to the type of the tumour, the location and most importantly, the stage of the tumour. If the tumour has a scope of being completely cured, it is treated under curative therapy. This form of therapy is also termed as adjuvant therapy. Palliative therapy, on the other hand, is that form of treatment which is reserved for those cases in which the tumours will not be cured entirely. In that case, what can be done is that the radiation therapy should be intended only to localise the cancerous cells. The main motive in this case would be to make sure that the malignancy does not spread to other parts of the normal healthy body.
In Noida, another very recent form of treatment has developed. It is known as brachytherapy - a distinct form of therapy, in which the source of radiation is placed near the diseased part of the body in order to prevent the spread of the radiation to normal and healthy parts of the body. This just goes on to show that cancer is not invincible. Perhaps, the day is not very far when it can be completely cured, whatever the stage of the malignancy it may be. By- Rounak Bose
